About NUSI-ITF Trust for Indian Seafarers
The National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) is the leading Seafarers Union in the country. The NUSI in co-operation with the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) set up a Welfare Trust called NUSI/ ITF Trust. The objectives of the trust are:
- Welfare activities for the benefit of the Indian seafarers and their families.
- Establish Academies, Hospitals, Senior Seafarers Sanatorium and Holiday Homes.
- To support colleges, schools, community centres where there are large concentration of seafarers residing, for construction of new facilities. Support other public charitable trusts which are focussed on seafarers welfare.
- Financially support deserving Indian citizens on a case to case basis for medical and other assistance.
Management of trust
The trust is governed by Seven Honorary Trustees, of which two are prominent individuals representing foreign ship owners and others are nominated by NUSI.
The day-to-day affairs of the trust are managed by an administrator and their team, who are based at the trust's headquarters in Mumbai. The administrator, along with their team, is responsible for overseeing the operations and implementation of the trust's various welfare activities and initiatives.
